Faisant partie de la Société canadienne du cancer, ce comité se consacre à faire une différence dans la vie des personnes touchées par le cancer.
Avec plus de 80 ans d'expérience dans la lutte contre le cancer, la Société canadienne du cancer est devenue le plus grand organisme caritatif national de lutte contre le cancer au Canada. La mission de la société est d'éradiquer le cancer et d'améliorer la qualité de vie des personnes vivant avec et au-delà du cancer. Ils y parviennent en finançant des recherches novatrices, en fournissant des services de soutien aux patients et à leurs familles, en plaidant pour des politiques publiques qui favorisent une vie saine et préviennent le cancer, et en partageant des informations fiables sur tous les aspects de la maladie.
Le comité du Relais pour la vie de Nepean joue un rôle important dans le soutien de ces efforts en organisant des événements de collecte de fonds tout au long de l'année. Ces événements rassemblent des personnes de tous les horizons qui ont à cœur de faire une différence dans leur communauté. Les participants peuvent marcher ou faire des tours autour d'une piste tout en collectant des fonds auprès de sponsors qui s'engagent à faire des dons en fonction du nombre de tours qu'ils effectuent.
En plus de recueillir des fonds pour la recherche et les services de soutien, ces événements sont également l'occasion de célébrer la vie des survivants tout en se souvenant de ceux qui ont perdu le cancer. Le comité travaille sans relâche tout au long de l'année pour s'assurer que chaque événement est bien organisé, engageant et significatif.
Un aspect unique du travail du comité Relais pour la vie de Nepean est l'accent qu'il met sur l'engagement des jeunes. Le comité reconnaît que les jeunes ont un rôle important à jouer dans la création d'un monde sans cancer. À cette fin, ils offrent aux jeunes la possibilité de s'impliquer en faisant du bénévolat lors d'événements ou en participant à des initiatives dirigées par des jeunes.
